Whether your needs are professional or for your home, we can satisfy all of
your piano needs from the supply of a new piano, a secondhand piano, or the
restoration or tuning of an existing instrument. The following sections describe
the different products and services offered:</font></p>
<p><b><i><font size="4"><u>Sales</u></font></i></b></p>
<p>As primarily piano restorers but also as piano players we are well placed to
give you the most informed information on all the pianos that we sell. Buying
a piano is not an easy undertaking and we aim to make it a more relaxing purchase
by being as honest as possible.</p>
<p>We sell new pianos from a range of manufacturers including Broadwood, Knight,
Woodchester, Weber, Young Chang, Petrof , plus some of the constantly improving
Chinese manufacturers which are nowadays quite surprisingly playable instruments.
We also have a full range of secondhand and restored upright and grand pianos
always in stock and we usually have part exchange instruments for sale at surprisingly
cheap prices.</p>
<p>We also sell a wide variety of piano furniture. Stools are sourced from various
manufacturers covering the budget sector through to high quality stools, concert
stools and also music cabinets.</p>
<p><b><u><i><font size="4">Restoration</font></i></u></b></p>
<p>Grantham Piano Services have been restoring grand and upright pianos since
1972 (in fact the business was solely based on restoration for many years) no
job has been too small or too large, and there are few things which we haven't
encountered. Our expertise covers everything from wooden framed tabletop pianos
to Steinway concert grands. All makes are catered for and all work is carried
out in our on-site workshop.</p>
<p>Our restoration work is broken down thus:</p>
<p><b>Action overhauling</b> - From fitting a new set of key tops to replacing
an entire action with new parts and everything in between, all work is carried
out to a high standard using all the benefit of the experience we have accumulated
over the years.</p>
<p><b>Restringing</b> - We pride ourselves on the quality of our restringing work.
Wrest planks (Tuning planks) can be replaced. Frames are re-painted. Soundboard
cracks are repaired and the soundboards re-varnished. Pianos are strung in the
best quality German piano wire and the pianos tuned to concert pitch. We have
restrung many hundreds of pianos and I'm pleased to say that it's still good
fun!</p>
<p><b>Repolishing</b> - One of our specialities! Although we are equipped to refinish
pianos in modern finishes when required to do so, the majority of our customers
prefer the look and feel of a traditional French polish finish on their pianos.
Again this is carried out in our on-site workshops to a very high standard.
</p>
<p><b>Tuning</b> - We offer a fully qualified, high-class tuning service to all
our customers. This service is also used by the majority of the local concert
venues and theatres, which include Plymouth Pavilions, Plymouth Theatre Royal,
Plymouth Guildhall, City of Plymouth Museum lunch time concert series, University
of Plymouth Sherwell Centre and many other associations, music teachers and
fine amateur pianists. We have prepared and tuned concert instruments for many
visiting international concert pianists but we would be delighted to tune your
piano for any visiting international grannies at Christmas!</p>
